Sage Traylor is an emerging multimedia studio artist whose practice exists at the radical intersection of contemporary art, alchemy, and anarchism. Currently based in Ruston, Louisiana, Traylor is recognized for a process defined by "deliberate disobedience" and an unconventional, messy experimentation with the physical world. Her work serves as a deeper exploration of material potential, building complex structures from a vast and unpredictable range of media—including wood, clay, fabric, garbage, fire, plastic, and organic matter like banana peels. By treating these overlooked substances as equal collaborators rather than mere tools, Traylor challenges established societal norms and invites a reconsideration of value within the "cage" of modern society.
Traylor’s multidisciplinary background spans community engagement, theater design, and fine art. Her regional exhibition record includes the 59th and 62nd Annual Shows at the Masur Museum, the 2024 School of Design student shows, and "Deck the Halls" (2025). Her diverse contributions include winning "Set of the Year" at the Strauss Theater, serving as a commissioned ghost artist, and helping renovate the downtown Ruston DIY skatepark.
Rooted in a lifelong curiosity that began with childhood "paper contraptions" and mud-sculpting, Traylor views her creative act as a spiritual pursuit. She sees God as the ultimate artist and nature as a massive, cellularly detailed masterpiece. By allowing materials to drip, crumble, melt, and crack according to their own nature, she seeks to bridge the gap between humanity and the divine. For Traylor, being an alchemist requires being an anarchist; she experimentally challenges societal expectations to push her materials and concepts to their fullest, most liberated extent.
